Ernest Cognacq Museum is an ensemble consisting of :
• An ancient private mansion situated in the heart of the fortifications built by Vauban and inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List,
• A contemporary wing with its bold architecture sheltering exhibition areas, a bookshop, an auditorium and the museum storerooms,
• Gardens completely recreated in 2007 in the 17th-century style, and home of the statue of George Washington, a descendant of a Rétais inhabitant.
From 4 April 2009, Ernest Cognacq Museum invites you to discover its new exhibition “Cast off !” and explore:
• A museal route for a better understanding of life on board large sailing boats in the 18th century,
• An innovative scenography making use of multimedia and sound effects, and combining with original works of art and reconstructions,
• A recreational itinerary designed for children.
